Tone-on-Tone Stamping Meets Dimensional Florals | Jody Morrow

Sometimes the most striking cards come from subtle details that quietly build depth and dimension. In today’s project, we’re focusing on how to combine tone-on-tone stamping, dry embossing, and layered florals to create a design that feels rich, polished, and beautifully balanced.

This card walks you through how to use background techniques like VersaMark stamping for soft contrast, along with dry embossing to introduce texture without overwhelming the design. You’ll also see how layered die cuts and ink-blended florals can bring dimension and movement to your card while still maintaining a clean and refined look.

Cut a piece of green (or any color) cardstock to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". Stamp floral images in the upper-left and lower-right corners using VersaMark ink for a tone-on-tone effect.
Stamp the sentiment onto white cardstock using Detail Black, then die-cut it with the third-largest double-stitched elongated oval die.
Dry emboss an A2 panel of white cardstock using the Bloomlight Stitches coverplate die.
Die cut the embossed panel using the same elongated oval die. Trim off the top and bottom portions of the oval.
Adhere the trimmed embossed pieces to the top and bottom of the stamped oval panel to create a layered focal panel.
On a separate piece of cardstock, stamp the floral images using Detail Black ink.
Use the coordinating stencils to ink blend color onto the floral images.

Die cut the florals along with one additional blank layer for each image, then adhere them together to add stability.
Adhere the green stamped panel to the card base.
Attach the oval focal panel to the card using thick foam tape.
Adhere the florals on the oval using thick foam tape to build dimension.
Finish the card by adding matte gold pearls for a subtle, elegant embellishment.
