Sparkly Geometric Birthday Card | Kathleen Schmelz

 Hi everyone, and happy Wednesday! It's Kathleen back with you today and I'm really excited to bring you this sparkly geometric birthday card!

As I was playing around with the products from the newest Flourish & Glow release, especially the Octagon Grid Coverplate die, I got so many ideas for how to use it! And I wanted to create a card that made this Octagon Grid the star of the show.

Here's how to make this card:

1. Card Base: Cut and score an A2 card base (top or side-folding) from white/cream/very light pink cardstock.
   
2. Octagon Grid: 
   
   1. Die cut the Octagon Grid die (3) times: once from Champagne Glitter Cardstock, once from white cardstock, and once from light pink cardstock.
   2. Ink blend (6) of the small white octagons with Spanish Moss (darker around the edges for a highlight effect).
   3. Inlay the thin Octagon frames from the white cardstock die cut into the die-cut Champagne glitter panel. Add foam adhesive on the back & adhere to the card base.
   4. Inlay (6) of the light pink Octagons and (6) of the ink-blended ones & adhere them directly onto the card front.
   5. Trim off the corners of the card base to shape it.
3. Add a sentiment: 
   1. Hot foil a sentiment of your choice with Champagne foil. For my card I used the "Happy (belated) Birthday" sentiment from the Classic Correspondence press plates. Die cut & stack with (1) blank piece.
   2. Heat emboss the Basic Banner: Everyday stamp in white on white cardstock. Die cut & blend Spanish Moss over the "Congrats" banner. Wipe off excess ink.
   3. Die cut a circle from vellum large enough to fit the hot-foiled sentiment.
   4. Adhere all those elements on top of the glitter octagon, overlapping the banner over the sentiment.
4. Embellish: Use some Jewels in Ballet Slipper for the final touch.

I hope you enjoyed this card idea! I think this design is also great for masculine or gender-neutral cards, as you can easily switch up the colors used–think silver glitter cardstock combined with white (or light gray) and dark navy, for example! Or change the sentiment to make it fit your occasion!

And, since we die-cut the Octagon Grid three times, we have plenty of leftovers to create two more cards with it!
