Ombre Ink Blending with Moonlit Blooms | Rachel Alvarado

Hello friends! It's Rachel here with an ombre-colored thank you card featuring some gorgeous florals from the new Moonlit Blooms product suite.   

I absolutely love the large size of the florals that come with this suite.  I have always been drawn to lots of color, so I find it easier to add multiple ink colors when working with images that have larger areas for ink-blending with the stencils.

How to recreate this card:

1.  Trim a piece of purple card stock to 4.25" wide x 5.5" tall and run it through your die cutting machine using the Stitched Basketweave Coverplate Die.

2.  Layer this piece on top of a vertical top-folding A2 sized card base. (To do this, trim a piece of card stock to 4.25" x 11" and score it at 5.5" on the long (11") side.)

3.  Layer your card base with both a light purple and white piece of card stock after die cutting them with two different sized dies from the Essentials: Blanket Stitched Octagons Die Set. (I used the second and third largest dies.)

4.  Use the Moonlit Blooms Cling Stamp and Detail Black Ink to stamp your florals onto a piece of smooth white card stock.  (I used Neenah Solar White 110 lb. Card Stock.)

TIP: When stamping with a cling stamp, I find it a lot easier to use a stamping tool (such as a MISTI or something equivalent) to get a clear, crisp image.  Pinkfresh Studio also offers this same image as a press plate if desired. 

5.  Add color to your images using the coordinating Moonlit Blooms Stencils along with some Pinkfresh Studio Inks and Brushes.

• Stencil 1: Mint & Eucalyptus
• Stencil 2: Sparkling Rose, Ocean Breeze, Aquamarine 
• Stencil 3: Sparkling Rose & Ocean Breeze (small flower); Sparkling Rose & Peach Fuzz (inside of flowers)
• Stencil 4: I did not use stencil 4 for my card today.  However,  if you want to add the stars and moon, you can choose whatever color(s) you like.

TIP: To achieve the ombre ink-blending, I find it best to apply the lightest ink color first before adding the darker color(s).  Also, if adding multiple colors to multiple images, I usually cover the images that I am not currently blending (with either paper or low-tack tape) so that I don't accidentally add more color to other images that are close to the one that I am ink-blending.  I find that if you add too much ink mixing, the colors sometimes look murky instead of soft and ombre.

6. Die cut your ink-blended images using the coordinating Moonlit Blooms Dies. 

7.  Adhere the images to your card front with 3D foam adhesive tape for a pop of dimension. (I find that a card usually looks less flat when you add die cuts with dimensional foam tape.)

8. Heat emboss your sentiment (mine was from the new Cozy Blooms Stamp Set) onto some black card stock with fine detail white embossing powder and use the coordinating die set to cut it out.

9.  Use the coordinating sentiment die to die cut 3-4 more pieces of black card stock (without the actual sentiment).  Glue these extra pieces behind the original one.  This gives your sentiment more depth and looks better than adding foam tape behind it. 

10.  (Optional) Finish your card by adding some sparkly embellishments. (I used some Champagne Glitter Drops.)
