Fancy Folds to Level Up Your Card | Jody Morrow

Fancy fold cards instantly capture attention, and with the right techniques, they’re easier to create than you might think. In today’s tutorial, I’m sharing how I transformed the Flower Market product suite into a dimensional card design that includes a scored fold card base, a realistic awning, and a hand-inked sidewalk scene. These clever folds add depth, movement, and detail.

I created this card during a YouTube Live. You can catch the replay HERE

How to recreate this card:

  1. Stamp the floral image on a piece of 4 1/2" x 6" white cardstock using Detail Black. Refer to the coordinating die to place the stamp in the correct position. You will need room to stencil the flower stand and additional greenery. Allow to dry, or heat set to avoid smearing the hybrid ink.
  2. Color the image using the coordinating stencils:
    1. Stencil 1: Ballet Slipper (awning), Ocean Breeze + Aquamarine (stand)
    2. Stencil 2:  Raspberry Bliss (awning, flowers), Misty Coast (countertop, legs)
    3. Stencil 3: Peach Fuzz, Persimmon
    4. Stencil 4: Ocean Breeze, Aquamarine, Tidal Pond
    5. Stencil 5: Lemon Whip
    6. Stencil 6: Fresh Pear, Grassy Knoll
    7. Repeat again using the same color palette, but changing up the pot and flower colors for additional pots to sit on the ground in front of your stand.
  3. Die cut the images using the coordinating die. Fussy cut one set of the 4 pots/flowers and set aside. Stack the other set of die cuts with blanks cut from white cardstock. Set aside.
  4. Score a piece of white cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 11" at 5 1/2" and 6 1/2" along the long side. Fold in half and burnish the crease. Fold the flap up and burnish the crease. Open the card and adhere the 1" top section closed with liquid glue.
  5. Use low-tack tape to mask off the top inch of the card base. Ink-blend lightly using Ocean Breeze to create a sky.
  6. Use low-tack tape to mask off the lower portion of the card base to lave only 3/4" exposed along the bottom. Ink-blend with Misty Coast. Hold a piece of cardstock at a diagonal, and lighty ink blend along the edge of the cardstock with Rocky Slope. Continue moving the cardstock "mask" to the left about every 3/4" and repeat to create the illusion of a sidewalk.
  7. Snip off the strand of stars from the flower stand.
  8. Adhere the stand to the card base using foam adhesive.
  9. Score the awning at 3/8" on the side where the scallops are. Bend/fold to create a realistic awning. Adhere the awning to the stand using a single level of foam tape along the top edge, and a triple layer of foam tape just above the score line to achieve a sloped finish.
  10. Arrange the fussy-cut pots in front of the stand and adhere using foam tape. I adhered the terracotta pot with the pink flowers over the pot on the countertop to add a bit of interest and dimension.
  11. Die cut the Petal Trellis coverplate from an A2 white cardstock panel. Cut a 1" section that contains 5 flowers across. (Cut just past the tips of the inner diamonds for a perfect 1" piece.) Adhere to the 1" strip on the top of the card base.
  12. Stamp the "You're so thoughtful" sentiment on white cardstock using Detail Black ink; heat set and then die cut. Stack with a white cardstock blank and adhere to the card.
  13. Embellish on both sides of the sentiment, in the center of the flowers on the die cut using a Clear Drop in Ice.

I hope this project inspires you to try your hand at fancy fold cards!
