Fresh Start Inspiration with Colorful Stripes & Texture | Kathleen Schmelz

Hi there! It's Kathleen here on the blog again and I'm excited to share another layout I made with my Fresh Start collection. 

The inspiration for this layout came from this month’s challenge theme, Striking Stripes. The colorful stripes on the You Got This paper were perfect for bringing that theme to life.

For the color palette, I took a slightly different approach from the challenge inspiration and chose shades that coordinated best with my photo. I absolutely love those soft pastel sunset tones!

After creating several projects with the Fresh Start collection using almost all of the colors, I wanted to try something a little different and show how the whole feel of the collection can change when you focus on just a few colors instead.

Here's how you can recreate this page:

1. Cut a piece of 7" x 9.5" from the Keep Growing paper, leaving a 2.5" border along the left, right, and bottom edges.
2. Cut a piece of white cardstock to 9" x 10.5". Center it along the top edge of the Keep Growing paper and adhere it using foam adhesive.
   Optional: Before adhering the cardstock, add machine stitching along the left, right, and bottom edges for extra texture.
3. Fussy cut the colorful stripes from the You Got This paper in the 6" x 8" paper pad. Adhere eight strips to the white cardstock using foam adhesive, leaving a 2.5" gap between the 3rd & 4th strips.
   Tip: Before adhering the strips, tie coordinating colorful twine around some of them for added detail.
4. Trim your photo to 6" x 2.25" and adhere it in between the 3rd & 4th paper strips.
5. Add tone-on-tone embellishments that match the theme of your layout.
6. Choose a title from the Chipboard Stickers & adhere it centered below the last paper strip using foam adhesive.
7. Add your journaling beneath the title.
   Tip: If you don't like your handwriting (like me), or need more space, type it on a computer & print it out instead.

I’m really happy with how this page turned out, and I hope it inspires you to look at the Fresh Start collection in a new way and experiment with different color combinations of your own!
