Floating Florals and Fluttering Wings
Hello, crafty friends!
This month’s Pinkfresh Studio challenge invited us to create a project inspired by flutter & florals using the beautiful June color palette: Peach Fuzz, Ballet Slipper, Raspberry Bliss, Emerald City, Blue Jay, and Slumber.
For my layout with the gorgeous Fresh Start collection, I wanted to bring those guidelines to life through a composition filled with layered florals, delicate butterflies, and a soft 3D effect that adds both volume and movement. The idea was to let the page feel like it was gently fluttering—just like the theme suggested—while keeping the color story cohesive and intentional.
The warm tones (peach, pinks, raspberry) inspired the floral elements, while the cooler shades (greens and blues) guided the stitched butterfly wing that becomes the focal point of the page. The result is a layout that feels airy, dimensional, and full of life.

Step by Step
- Fussy‑cut the peach florals. Start by cutting out the peach‑colored flowers from one of the patterned papers in the collection. This ties directly into one of the challenge colors and sets the tone for the warm section of the layout.
- Select coordinating elements. Choose floral and leafy pieces from the ephemera pack that match your palette. Mix sizes and shapes to create depth later on.
- Cut butterflies in multiple sizes. From another patterned paper, fussy‑cut butterflies in various sizes. These will help build the fluttering movement across the page.
- Pick embroidery threads. Select embroidery threads that best match the challenge colors. This will keep your stitched element perfectly coordinated.
- Pierce the butterfly wing silhouette. On your layout base, lightly pierce the outline of a side‑view butterfly wing. This will become the stitched focal point.
- Stitch the full silhouette. Embroider the wing, placing cool colors (greens, blues) toward the top and warm colors (pinks, corals)toward the bottom. This gradient effect echoes the challenge palette beautifully.
- Add a black‑and‑white profile photo. Cut a black‑and‑white profile photo and position it right in front of the stitched wing, as if the butterfly were emerging behind you.
- Layer florals and butterflies. Arrange all your flowers and butterflies around the stitched area, overlapping them at different heights using foam adhesive. This creates the dimensional, fluttering effect the challenge calls for.
- Finish with puffy stickers, enamels & dew drops. Add puffy stickers, enamel dots, and dew drops to mimic tiny water dropletsand bring extra sparkle and texture to the page.

TIP
For a more cohesive aesthetic, group your embellishments by color: place cool tones (greens, blues) toward the top of the page and keep warm tones (reds, corals, peach) toward the bottom. This creates a natural visual flow and enhances the gradient effect of the stitched wing.
Thank you so much for reading my post. I hope this layout inspires you to explore the flutter & florals theme in your own creative projects and to play with color, movement, and dimension in new ways.
Keep creating beauty! Love,
Camino
