Creating Contrast with Color & Texture

Hi everyone! It’s Kathleen with you today with my first The Simple Things card for the blog. This card uses not just one, but actually three new product suites from the new release!

And today's card is a great example for how small details can take a card from good to great and really finish it off!

Step-by-step instructions:

1. Card Base & Panel:
   1. (1) A2 top or side-folding card base from white cardstock
      
   2. (1) A2 panel from white cardstock, ink blended all over with Sheer Freesia (or use light purple cardstock instead)
      
2. Heirloom Nested Frames Panel:
   1. Die cut the third-largest Heirloom Nested Frames die from white cardstock & temporarily adhere it centered onto the light purple panel.
   2. Mark the placement of the Heirloom Nested Frame with a pencil & take it off.
   3. Dry emboss the Dragonfly Dreams press plate on the light purple panel so the floral wreath frames the Heirloom Nested Frame panel.
   4. Adhere the dry-embossed panel onto the card base, then adhere the Heirloom Nested Frame die cut centered with foam adhesive.
3. Steeped in Comfort:
   1. Hot foil the Steeped in Comfort illustrations (only lemons & honey) in gold onto white cardstock.
   2. Ink blend with the coordinating stencils, using Sweet Mustard & Marigold for the lemons and honey, Bay Leaf for the leaves, Warm Buff for the honey dipper, and Sheer Freesia and Hydrangea for the rest.
   3. Die cut & stack with (1) blank layer each.
   4. Adhere onto the card front as shown, using varying thicknesses of foam adhesive and letting the die cuts slightly overlap.
4. Sentiment & Embellishments: 
   1. Stamp a Steeped in Comfort sentiment in Detail Black, die cut & stack with (2) blank pieces. Adhere in the upper area of the Heirloom Nested Frame die cut.
   2. Embellish with color-coordinated Clear Drops (like Lilac).

Tip: You don’t always have to use all the illustrations in a set for one card. Sometimes choosing only a few helps creating different arrangements and putting the focus on those smaller elements.

I absolutely love how the soft background really makes those lemons and the honey jar pop! And the texture from the dry-embossed Dragonfly Dreams press plate adds just the right amount of something to the background, don't you think?
