Lush Garden Roses at Christmas
Hi everyone! It's Anne here with you today and I've got a lush, flower filled Christmas card to share with you. I used the new Garden Roses layering stencil set, stamp set and coordinating die. And for that pretty, flowery sentiment I used the gorgeous new Inna's Alpha design.
I started off by stamping with the Garden Roses stamp and Detail Black ink on a piece of 5 1/2 by 5 1/2 white card stock, a few times, till it was covered. I also clear heat embossed over it.
For the roses I decided to use soft reds: Coral Reef, Passion Fruit and Berrylicious. And for the greenery it was Fresh Pear and Grassy Knoll. Then I put my stenciled image in the MISTI and stamped the outline over it. I put one of the stencil layers back over the roses to add some glitter gel to the flowers. I just thought it would add a little magic to my Christmas card. Then they were die cut out and I moved on to the JOY part of my sentiment.
I pulled out Inna's Alpha hot foil plates and some shiny green foil to get started, then decided not to use the layering stencil to color in the letters, just the blooms.
The backing piece, with the black on white stamping, got trimmed down to 5 X 5 then I chopped off an additional inch and a half from one end of it so it measured 5 X 3 1/2 inches. I taped it down to my card base which measured 5 X 5, and used a slim stripe of black felt paper to cover the seam. I decided to round the corners, using a corner punch, because the sharp corners along with the black and white color combination made it feel too formal to me.
I needed the letters to stand out from the white background and decided to pull down that green color from the leaves that would be placed at the top later. So I ombre ink blended with another piece of white card stock and some Pinkfresh greens: Mint, Meadow and Emerald City, and cut it to a little over 4 X 4 inches.
I used a stamp from the Poinsettia stamp set for the "at Christmas" part of my sentiment, to stamp directly onto the ink blended square. And decided to splatter both the background and the roses with watered down black gouache.
I started arranging everything and using lots of foam tape for dimension... and then, feeling inspired by one of my fellow design teammates I added some black felt leaves using the Leafy Branch die. I think that really punched up the whole look of the card!
The final measurement for the card is 5 X 5, the flowers make it larger of course. I would have to make special arrangements to mail this, or better yet just hand deliver it to someone special.
I think the green & red, and black & white color combo's made for an elegant Christmas card. I added some of Pinkfresh's silver pearls for a final touch and was done. I hope some of these design choices have inspired you to make something new today! Thanks so much for coming by!
