Hot Foiling On Colored Cardstock | Jenny Colacicco

Hot Foiling On Colored Cardstock | Jenny Colacicco

Hi crafty friends! I'm glad you're checking in with us today for what I hope will be some crafty inspiration!  Today I'm featuring the beautiful Joyful Peonies hot foil plate and coordinating layering stencils, pairing them with a coral cardstock to create a classy set of cards.

To create my cards,  I first got to hot foiling.  I'm using a panel of Sorbet cardstock and I trimmed it down to four A2 panels, then repeat foiled the Joyful Peonies four times using Matte Gold glimmer hot foil. I like to do all my foiling while my hot foil system is nice and hot. I use the Spellbinders Glimmer system. As I was also foiling my sentiments, I did those too. I'm using the Celebrating You hot foil plate, with the same foil, onto a panel of white cardstock.

Once all my foiling was done, I did my ink blending, blending each stencil layer in turn on all four Joyful Peonies. I used Passion Fruit for the main blooms, and added edges for depth using Candy Apple.  For the leaves,  I used Fresh Pear, which creates an interesting color over the colored cardstock. As these inks are dye inks, they're translucent and so the color of the cardstock affects how they appear. I used this to accentuate the lighter coral color of the cardstock, with deeper tones for depth on the petals, and experimented a little with those leaves! You might notice I only used a couple of the stencil layers, rather than all five -  you can play around and pick and choose the effect you like!

I die cut out each of the peonies with the coordinating die. For my first card, I arranged the peonies onto a white notecard,  adhering them with foam squares, and trimming off the excess. I only needed three of the peonies to fill the card panel.  I added one of the hot foiled sentiments, die cut using the coordinating die and popped it up in the centre with foam tape.  I then finished with a few jewels.

For my second card, I created a background by repeat stamping the Be Strong stamp set in Passion Fruit ink. I then mounted my last die cut peony onto a frame created with the Braided Oval die set (from gold mirror cardstock) using foam squares. onto the top of the frame and also underneath (i.e. a double layer, sandwiching the frame between the foam squares). I then mounted it onto the stamped background and added it to a white note card.

Once again, I  popped one of the hot foil sentiments onto the peony (this plate is great as you get several sentiments with minimal effort!) and added a few jewels around the card and also as the flower centers!

I hope these cards have inspired you to get foiling, and don't forget to grab for that colored cardstock - for both foiling AND ink blending!
