A Rainbow of Handmade Kindness | Jody Morrow

Hello, Pinkfresh friends! Today I’m sharing a project that celebrates color, texture, and a simple message that makes a big impact. I wanted to create a clean and modern card that still felt warm and handmade, so I leaned into stitching details and a full ROYGBIV rainbow palette.

This design combines crisp white space with bright color in a structured layout. Rainbow cardstock strips create a stitched edge accent, while a grid of dimensional button details adds texture and interest. Each button is hand-stitched with coordinating embroidery floss, bringing a true homespun feel to the clean, graphic design.

To finish the card, I created a dimensional thread spool wrapped with the same rainbow floss and stamped it with the word Kindness—a simple reminder that small handmade gestures can make a meaningful difference.

How to recreate this card:

1. Create a white, top-folding A2 card base.
2. Die cut a panel from white cardstock using the largest Single Stitch Rectangle die.
3. Adhere 1/2" strips of cardstock to the panel in ROYGBIV order.
4. Run the panel back through your die cutting machine using the same rectangle die to add stitched detail to the rainbow panel.
5. Trim a 1" strip from the rainbow panel and adhere it to the edge of a new white die-cut rectangle panel.
6. Die cut the Octagon Grid die from white cardstock and keep only the frame pieces.
7. Use the die cut as a placement guide and adhere the octagon frames to a white cardstock panel with liquid glue.
8. Adhere buttons in a ROYGBIV color order to the centers of the octagons.
9. Thread each button with coordinating embroidery floss and secure the thread ends to the back of the panel with tape.
10. Trim the finished panel to size.
11. Die cut a gray cardstock rectangle 1/8" larger than the panel and adhere the stitched panel on top to create a mat.
12. Adhere the layered panel to the card base using foam tape.
13. Die cut the thread spool from white cardstock and stamp the sentiment “Kindness” from the Heartmade Details stamp set using Rocky Slope.
14. Die cut two additional thread spools and stack them behind the stamped piece for dimension.
15. Wrap the spool with the same rainbow embroidery floss used on the buttons, layering each color two to three times in ROYGBIV order.
16. Thread a piece of white floss through the top hole of the spool for added detail.
17. Adhere the finished thread spool to the card front using foam tape.

I love how this card combines bright color with a clean, structured layout. The stitched buttons and wrapped thread spool add texture and dimension, while the white space keeps the design feeling fresh and modern.

Using the same embroidery floss throughout the project helps tie everything together and gives the card a cohesive, handmade feel. It’s a great reminder that a simple layout, thoughtful color choices, and a meaningful sentiment can create something truly special.
