Adding Dimension | Sequins Tutorial
Happy March everyone!
1st of all I would also like to announce February challenge winner. Thank you so much for all who participated. Hope you all had fun creating.
Now let's get started on the spring season with a look on how to create some dimension on your layouts with 3-D die cuts. I love the shape and texture that these sequins add to this design.
I chose a circle shape to contrast all the long rectangular shaped strips at the bottom of this patterned paper in the Life Noted collection.
Start by cutting 7 sequin shapes with perforated lines (you'll use 2 for a cutting guide below). These are from the Silhouette Online store and are cut in two different sizes. Gently fold the perforated lines so that the sequin takes shape.
Using the perforated lines for a guide, cut the inside portion of the sequin so that you end up with a hexagon template. We will use a smaller scale pattern for the inside of the sequins, so you will need to cut out 4 inside "hexagons" to cover the remaining sequins. The difference in pattern/scale really let the sequin shape shine.
Using one of the larger hexagon templates, place it over the photo and use it as a cutting guide. The photo will be framed in one of the sequins.
Use two of the acetate words from the Life Noted collection to add a title to the layout.
Use heart wood veneer stickers from Pinkfresh to dress up the centers of 3 of the sequins. This adds a nice pop of dimension to the flat centers of the shape.
Next add two rubber charm word strips from the Life Noted collection to the upper right corner of the layout. Finish with a pink wood enamel dot from Pinkfresh.
Print out your journaling on white card stock and cut into thin strips.
Place the strips in the center of the sequin, using a wet adhesive sparingly on the ends so that the strips look like they are hanging off the ends of the sequins. Notice how the journaling mimics the strips of words found on the patterned paper background.
Using 3-D die cuts is a fun way to add a pop of dimension to your layouts using all of the beautiful collections from Pinkfresh Studio!
So today's challenge is to create a paper crafting project with some added dimension. Link your projects by clicking the blue button below by March 31st, 2016.
One lucky winner will receive our brand new Life noted collection.
Winner will be announced on April 1st.
*Please note that you are not required to use Pinkfresh Studio products, but you will get an extra credit if you do. And you can link any paper crafting project. It can be a card, scrap book layout, pocket pages layout etc. You can link more than one project.
