Layering Simple Elements for a Dimensional Christmas Design

Hi, cardmakers!

There’s something magical about a Christmas card with lots of layers! It’s Steph here, back with a Christmas card that combines simple die cuts, sparkle, and dimension to create a design that looks wonderfully intricate. I paired the new Seasonal Sprigs washi tape with a die-cut background, ink-blended frame, and gold foil to create a traditional yet elegant Christmas design. The best part? Each layer adds something special while keeping the wreaths as the focal point.

How to Create This Card

1. Create an A2 side-folding card base from white cardstock.
2. Cut an A2 panel from Essentials Glitter Cardstock: Ivory.
3. Use the Celestial Quilt cover plate to die-cut an A2 panel from white cardstock.
4. Adhere the Celestial Quilt panel to the glitter cardstock panel using liquid adhesive.
5. Use the second- and third-largest dies from the Essentials: Single Stitch Rectangle die set to die-cut a frame from white cardstock.
6. Ink-blend the white cardstock frame with Spruce Tips.
7. Adhere the ink-blended frame to the Celestial Quilt panel using liquid adhesive.
8. Adhere the wreath portion of the Seasonal Sprigs washi tape to a piece of white cardstock.
9. Repeat the previous step to create a second wreath.
10. Use the coordinating dies to die-cut both wreaths.
11. Use foam tape to adhere the wreaths to the Celestial Quilt panel, placing one at the top of the card and the other at the bottom. Position them so they overlap slightly in the center.
12. Use gold foil to hot-foil the sentiment, “Wishing you all the joys of this Christmas season,” from the Treasured Greetings press plate onto white cardstock.
13. Use the coordinating die to cut out the sentiment.
14. Adhere the sentiment to the center of the card using thin foam adhesive, positioning it where the two wreaths overlap, and your card is complete!

I love how these layers come together to create a card that feels intricate yet easy to assemble. The dimensional wreaths draw the eye to the center, while the die-cut background, glittery details, green frame, and gold-foiled sentiment add just the right amount of sparkle and texture. I hope this inspires you to try layering your favourite techniques on your next Christmas card!
