Hello again, friends! Missy here with two new layouts featuring the Joyful Day collection. For my first layout, I noticed the cool shape of the Chipboard Frames packaging. I immediately got an idea in my head for a layout design, and I decided to use it as a big element on my page. I coated the white cardstock background and chipboard with gesso and then glued the chipboard down. I pulled out the Liquid Watercolors and created a rainbow color scheme inside each shape.
This was fun to make, and each shape was like its own mini layout. I decided to embellish tone-on-tone and keep all the colors together. I fussy cut lots of little images from the Simple Pleasures Paper. I also used some of the Mixed Embellishments, Die Cut Ephemera and Puffy Stickers.
I wanted to add more texture, so before gluing anything down, I machine stitched through the chipboard using white thread. I also made sure to add adhesive foam behind the larger pieces that overlapped the chipboard lines so the height would match up.
This chipboard instantly created dimension, and it was actually pretty easy to embellish in these small areas. I later decided to add more watercolor outside the chipboard, and I think it made all the difference.
I went with a black & white photo to help all those bright colors pop. I also tucked in some matching colors of tangled thread here and there.
This area in the orange section was perfect for this big "love" Puffy Sticker. The "l" is so long, and the space was perfect for it.
One more close-up of all the dimension and details!
My second layout has lots of mixed media on it as well. I have use the Embroidered Blossoms Die Set before, and I was itching to use them again! I cut lots of flowers and leaves on some plain watercolor paper. I used the Liquid Watercolors to paint them, and I love how they turned out. I also cut some of the flowers using patterned papers from Joyful Day. I decided to jazz them up a little and added some watercolor to them as well. I went with a large half circle design with some of the flowers overlapping my color photo.
I did a bit of watercolor work on the background in an arc behind the flowers using mostly pinks, yellows and oranges. I glued down all the flowers and leaves, leaving the edges free to bend up.
These bright colors just make me so happy! I added to the whimsical factor and layered in some more tangled thread.
These dies are so awesome, and they are perfect for customizing your own flowers. I spritzed them with water first and then started by just dabbing a bit of the Liquid Watercolors on them and letting the water make the color spread. I mixed and matched some colors and even dropped in a little bit of white acrylic paint. They dried really pretty.
I went simple with the rest of the layout to really let those flowers shine. I mixed and matched my title using the two different puffy alpha sticker sets from Joyful Day, and I wrote my journaling with a pink pen.
I added some adhesive foam behind my photo to give it a little bit of depth since the flowers were going to be dimensional as well.
I used more of the flowers and thread to create a small cluster over on the upper left side.
I hope these layouts inspired you in some way and give you some fun ideas to try on your next project! One thing I've learned is to never throw away your product packaging. You never know when you could use it on something!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great day!
