Bold Holiday Cards

Bold Holiday Cards

Hello! It's Kelly here today sharing some holiday cards using an unexpected color combination and gold embossing for a bold statement!  I've been using a lot of traditional red and green, but I decided to mix things up for something a little different!
I will share the steps for creating both of these designs as well as a few tips along the way! I haven't had a chance to use the new Merry Days Stamp Set so I was dying to use it for one of today's cards! To begin, I die cut the tree using the Merry Days die out of green cardstock and used the new Olive Ink Pad to add some ink blending around the perimeter. I also die cut the frame from the same green cardstock using the Essentials: Pretty Frames dies. I did some inkblending on this as well.
I cut a panel of teal cardstock to 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 inches and heat embossed the main image from the Merry Days stamp set in gold. I layered the frame over the top using foam squares as well as the die cut tree. I added a bow from the Season's Greetings stamp set to the top that was embossed in the same gold powder.
The sentiment, which is also from the Merry Days stamp set is heat embossed on a black strip and attached to the card with foam squares. I used a post it note to cover up the sentiment and added white paint splatter over the entire card front for a snowy feel! Once that was done, I added some Essentials: Jewels here and there for some added detail and shine!
My second card uses the same Pretty Frames dies {linked above} but die cut from the blue I used as the base on my first card. I layered this onto a panel of white cardstock that was dry embossed using the Folklore Die; I had it left over from a previous project and knew it would provide just a hint of added detail underneath the frame and focal image.
I stamped the wreath, which is from the Season's Greetings Stamp Set, black and then colored it with Copic markers. I left the stamp in my MISTI so that I could stamp over it again, but this time with Versarmark. I heat embossed it in gold for a beautiful effect. I used the Season's Greetings dies to die cut the wreath and the embossed bow. I did the same paint splatter treatment to this design as well, making sure to cover up the sentiment. I also added the same jewels for sparkle and shine! Thanks so much for joining me today and I hope that you will try using an unexpected color combination for some holiday designs!
