September guest designer: Rebecca Luminarias

Hello, all! I’m Rebecca Luminarias; you may know me from Instagram and my blog as Thurston Post. I live in Southern California with my husband Arvin and our two children, Gus (4) and Nemy (2). I’m over the moon to be guesting this month with the Pinkfresh Studio September kit!
My favorite things to make when crafting are tags and cards, and, without getting too dramatic or hyperbolic on you, gift-wrapping really sets my soul on fire! I HAD to use the envelope that the kit came in as packaging and decorate it. The gold frame around the front is so pretty and I really wanted to showcase it. Tying in with the gold and aqua ombre washi tape, I chose a cool color scheme with the addition of the purplish details. Using a piece of the ‘Bow Ties’ paper from the Happy Things collection as my “wrapping paper”, I stamped ‘Today / Tomorrow / Yesterday” toward the bottom of it as a reminder for my recipient to be adventurous everyday!
I love autumn and it may well be my favorite season, though I haven’t really experienced it in 10 years since moving to southern California. I grew up in New York (upstate—I always have to clarify that) where we had spectacular falls! Autumn is just hot, hot, hot where I live now, so I can only dream of sweater weather, orange leaves, and yummy hot beverages until winter.
With fall in mind, and working with the seasonal details from the kit, I created a textural card, using lace fabric as my background, and embellished it with wood veneer, sheer alphas, and sequins. I love texture so I always incorporate it into my projects using as many different kinds as possible.
Yes, I think autumn totally rocks, and my tag, featuring the “hello autumn” wood sticker and the “you rock” cut apart flag, says as much. I wanted to use the deer resin bobby pin, but the only trouble was the orientation of the deer didn’t quite fit with what I wanted to do. With some jewelry pliers, I pulled the bauble off of the pin and adhered it to my tag with a foam dot. Easy fix and I love the way the tag turned out!
Then I was able to use the pin on the Love To Snuggle mini card, after hot-gluing the heart wood veneer to it. I created my sentiment with the Golden Yellow alpha stickers and wood ‘snuggle’ word. I think this would make a sweet new baby card.
My last project is a thank you card and I made a small confetti packet using the September kit sequins and a glassine bag. I further embellished the bag with a swatch of lace and other bits from the kit, like the polka dot bobby pin (I had to make myself use those, by the way, instead of hoarding them!). Luckily, there’s an entire role of washi tape, also used here, because I’m in love with that, too.
Working with the September kit definitely makes me wish autumn would hurry up and arrive here! I’m so grateful to Kinnari for the opportunity to work with the last (sniff, sniff) Pinkfresh embellishment kit.
