Coordinating Stripes and Stencils | Jenny Colacicco

Hi Everyone, its Jenny here, and today I'm sharing a slimline card that features a border created from the new Essentials: Slim Stripes dies.

One of the hardest things creating a card can be choosing a color combination.  I go through color combo phases - I go back to navy and gold as a tried and true staple.  Of late I've been loving bold and bright pink and yellow. The Slim Stripes dies are fabulous for playing around with color combos before putting ink to paper.  You can cut lots of strips from your cardstock scraps (or create your own custom cardstock by swiping ink on white cardstock) and then play around with the strips until you get the combo you're happy with.

I used the thinnest of the stripes and ended up choosing cardstock in deep red, pale pink, dusky pink and bright yellow. I adhered them down the side of panel of white cardstock trimmed to the same length as the strips and 4.25" wide to create a slim line card.

To coordinate with the cardstock strip colors, I stamped the You Are Amazing stamp with different colors -I'm using the Clementine, Sunshine and Coral Reef inks which matched the  cardstock scraps from my stash. I did this by tapping each ink pad over a third of the stamp, overlapping each color before stamping it (using my MISTI) on my card panel.  I  repeated it for a deeper color.

I used the coordinating You Are Amazing Stencil Set to ink blend the same colors at random over the leaves to create a pretty, soft background, that coordinates with the cardstock colors I chose for my strips.   I also. added a few splatters of gold shimmer pen for a tiny bit of sparkle.

To finish, I stamped this wonderful sentiment in black ink - its from the You Are My Favorite stamp set.  I added a few Essentials: Jewels Mix to finish.

I am really intrigued by the stencil layering sets and the fact that they also have matching dies is genius! I would really like to try my hand at those! I will have to check out the inspiration samples! I think possibilities would be endless!
