Now It's time for June's Challenge!
Today I have a peek at my cardmaking process! I know I always enjoy seeing how other designers put together their creations so hopefully you'll enjoy getting a peek into my world! I have to say though - if you're expecting that I am logical and follow a plan or method when I create then you're in for a bit of a surprise. ?
It all begins here - supplies! ? I start by gathering some of my favourite supplies that I might want to create with. I don't ever start with a plan or anything, lol! Usually I'll be sparked by one particular paper, or stamp set, or colour. Then the rest grows organically from there.
I pick out a couple of patterned paper that I think will go together. I'm looking for a contrast in the colours and patterns in the paper - a bigger, bolder pattern coordinates nicely with a more subtle, delicate pattern. The papers from the Felicity Collection take all the guesswork out for you as everything coordinates beautifully!
I trim my papers to fit my card front. I deliberately trim my papers unevenly for added interest.
I adhere the papers to my card front, and in this case decided to add a strip of glitter washi tape for a fun detail.
Next comes one of my favourite touches - splatter! I usually use gold or black mist, and add some splatter to the top left and bottom right corners. This gives a bit of symmetry and aides the eye's movement across the card. (Apologies for the blurry photo, this was the only one I managed to snap!).
As the patterns are already quite lively, and that top paper so lovely, I really want to keep as much of it showing as possible, so I opt for a stamped sentiment from the Felicity Collection stamp set. I often 'test' how a stamped image will work out by first stamping it on some acetate and then overlaying it on the card to see how I like the look. This also helps me to finalise my positioning before I commit to the stamping!
I reach for my MISTI more and more these days, especially when it comes to adding sentiments. Here not only can I line up the stamp perfectly, but I can also overstamp to my heart's content to really add a bold, flawless look!
Time for some finishing touches! The Studio Puffs puffy stickers in this collection are one of my favourites pieces from the collection. I add embellishments in a visual triangle as it's pleasing to the eye and also draws just the right amount of attention to my sentiment.
I really love how this card turned out! It just goes to show that you don't always have to have a plan to create something!
Aren't those little details fantastic?!
So here's my challenge to you - create a project without following a plan! Start with one product/colour/paper/stamp/whatever, and just see where the design takes you! I bet you'll be surprised! And I can't wait to see what you come up with!
One lucky winner will receive a goody bag with $50.00 worth of stuff from our latest products. Winner will be announced on July 1st.
*Please note that you are not required to use Pinkfresh Studio products, but you will get an extra credit if you do. And you can link any paper crafting project. It can be a card, scrapbook layout, pocket pages layout etc. You can link more than one project.
